My dad was always making something from nothing. It seemed to me that he had every tool ever made. When his birthday would come around, I would try my hardest to present him with a new tool. Browsing the tool section at Sears, I saw a small scroll saw. I knew he loved his band saw, but this would work for much smaller and more intricate cuts. When he finally passed many years later, the saw looked as thought it had never been used. I realized that My father, for all his talents, was not a patient man and rarely used the saw. I ultimately inherited the scroll saw and found the detail work quite relaxing. It wasn't long before I out grew the small Craftsman model and upgraded to a Dewalt DW788
Since my initial scroll saw portrait, I have cut literally hundreds of pieces. working mostly from high grade 1/8" baltic birch plywood, I would cut anything that caught my eye. I soon tired from the use of catalog patterns and ventured into creating custom patterns. This ultimately led to commissioned work for clients all over the World.
I also get requests from scrollers for custom scroll saw patterns. Just send me a Photo and i'll create you a pattern starting at $5.00
My average price for a custom scroll saw portrait is about $35.00, however the price varies as a result of variables like shipping location, size, frame, and complexity/number of cuts.
